Melita is the ancient name for Malta. Malta is the beautiful “island in the sun” in the heart of the Mediterranean. It has a rich and fascinating history. The Maltese are known for being friendly and hospitable. The apostle Paul was shipwrecked on Malta in 60AD on his way from the Holy Land to Rome. This is recorded in the Bible in Acts: 27 and 28. The biblical text also notes that the Maltese were kind and hospitable. You can find out more about Malta by following this link.

The 1974 Malta Connection

Jennifer spent over a year on Malta as a teenager in 1974 while her family lived and worked in Libya. She moved to Malta to continue the senior years of her schooling when no similar options were available in English in Tripoli, Libya. Jennifer would fly back and forwards between Libya and Malta on school holidays.

While in Malta Jennifer went to school at St. Joseph's Girls College and boarded with a Maltese family and became very close friends with their daughters who were a similar age. Exploring the Mediterranean landscape of the Maltese islands and their rich heritage and history was very exciting.

Malta left an indelible impression on Jennifer. Her love for Malta and the Maltese grew to where now while being a true-blue Aussie, she fondly refers to herself as having a Maltese heart.

Returning to Malta

In 2001 the opportunity came for Jennifer to return to Malta with her husband Steve and two teenage children. Having not seen her Maltese family and school friends for 25 years she returned with much excitement. A wonderful seven weeks was spent rekindling friendships and exploring Malta and the beautiful Maltese islands of Gozo and Comino. The Maltese were warm and very generous and embraced the whole family.

Villa Melita...luxury by the bay

The design of Villa Melita is the expression of this Mediterranean adventure. While VM has echoes of both Maltese architectural heritage and Mediterranean style we hope that more importantly a stay at VM is true to the ancient Maltese tradition of warmth, hospitality and blessing.

Thank you for taking a moment to view our Maltese journey. We hope to have you stay at VM.
